VOLT THE ELECTRON CIRCUIT WORKSHOP

Hi I'm Jazmine Williams, Author and Illustrator of  Volt the Electron, which  is my latest children’s book created to promote STEM-related literacy in a fun, engaging, and easy-to-understand way.

Being married to an engineer and raising a STEAM-loving family that is always building circuits and experimenting with projects, I wanted to create a book that connects real life with learning. This story introduces children to electrons and helps them understand that electricity is all around us and that electrons exist in everything.

The book is paired with an interactive Volt the Electron Reading & Workshop, where children don’t just listen — they create. During the workshop, kids build their own electrical circuits using copper tape, LED lights, and a 3-volt coin battery. They also explore electricity through playdough circuits using dough, LED lights, and a 9-volt battery.

Additional activities can include DC motor experiments and vibration plate sessions, all designed to show how circuits connect using copper tape and a power source.

The goal of Volt the Electron is to spark curiosity, build confidence with science, and help children see that they can understand and create with electricity — turning readers into young engineers, inventors, and problem-solvers.
